I'm a volunteer photographer for the City of Sherwood. I can probably say that I'm the photographer because the other person that signed up to help, never showed up to do anything.
But I can understand. She is a mom with young kids to care for and I think she thought it would be easier to respond to requests from the city to photograph events and some on short notice.
For me, I enjoy contributing to our community using my talent as a photographer. I've taken thousands of photos of many events. Some at the new Sherwood Center For The Arts, at the Sherwood Library, at the new dog park, on special request for the Mayor's state of the city presentation and like this one yesterday at the Sherwood Police Department.
Periodically the police department has a clinic for proper installation and use of child car safety seats. It's really amazing how many parents think they know how to install and use them but in fact they don't.
I understand because I've had the fun of purchasing a new seat to transport our granddaughter in our car and trying to understand the directions provided with the seat.
Thank goodness for You Tube instructional videos. They are available for many of the child safety seats sold currently.
But nothing is better than being shown by an authority and an expert that has had the experience with just about every design sold by all of the manufacturers.
It was a very cold and blustery morning with the expectation of rain and wind. So while I waited for the first of about a half a dozen cars, SUV's in this case I tried to stay warm.
There were two volunteers that kept track of those arriving and starting the paperwork to log everyone in.
There were plenty of police officers waiting to start the training as well. It was all well organized and I can imagine that on a nice warm and sunny day the line of those waiting to take advantage of this clinic could be long, but not this day.
Families with young kids and infants waited in their cars until they were waved in. Among them were my son and granddaughter.
While it is well posted that photographs will be taken during these events and I wear my official Volunteer tag to let people know that, yes, I am a "city" person, generally people with kids are always a bit protective of photographs of their family and especially their kids. So I try not to be too intrusive and obvious and make good use of my zoom lens.
But since my family was also there, I pretty much used them as the subject of my photos.
As I wrote, I have taken thousands of photos for the city. However only a small number ever see the light of day when it comes to the public. Many are used, I'm told, for intercity documents, presentations and newsletters. And some are posted to facebook and on the city website.
I have created a special Google account just for the purpose of city photo storage and easy access for them to view, choose and download. This works well for them. I also tend not to do post processing on these photos unless I see they need to be straightened or in need of exposure adjustment. The city could do that but I have the time and I know how to best adjust them.
And so here are some of those photos taken on March 12th, 2016.
